Thursday 30 May 2013

On May 28th 2013 nearly 200 school counselors from across the Kingdom received awards as recognition for their efforts to implement a career counseling program called School to Career. School to Career is a component implemented by Save the Children as part of the larger Education Reform Support Program (ERSP), a program funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in partnership with Creative Associates International and the Ministry of Education (MoE)

School to Career has been offered in 272 public schools throughout Jordan, and will reach 330 schools and nearly 130,000 students by May 2014. Through this program, Save the Children provides capacity building for counselors, who in turn help students identify job opportunities in the local labor market that align with their skills and interests. Counselors who implemented the activities were given awards, as were Ministry of Education staff to acknowledge their management and follow-up of the program.

The ceremony included speeches from representatives of the Ministry of Education and USAID, a short film about the impact of School to Career on students and counselors, and distribution of certificates.

His Excellency Sattam Awad, the Secretary General at the Ministry of Education said, “The Ministry of Education is achieving His Majesty King Abdullah II vision in improving the educational system through the launch of the ErfKE program that includes innovative programs such as the School to Career Program, which aims to enhance the students employability skills that enable them to enter the labor market and provide them with critical thinking skills.”

ERSP is preparing Jordanian students for the knowledge economy by increasing quality of early childhood education, supporting the MoE establish a comprehensive professional development system, helping youth build career and life skills, and promoting use of data for decision making at schools and Field Directorates. USAID’s support to the education sector in Jordan directly aligns with HM King Abdullah’s vision for public education in the Kingdom and with the Ministry’s Education Reform for the Knowledge Economy (ERfKE).
